The Great American Smokeout

smokeoutTobacco use remains the single largest preventable cause of disease and premature death in the US, yet about 42 million Americans still smoke cigarettes — a bit under 1 in every 5 adults. Today is The American Cancer Society’s “Great American Smokeout”; this is celebrated on the third Thursday in November to encourage smokers to use this day to make a plan to quit, or to quit smoking that day. By quitting — even for one day — smokers will be taking an important step towards a healthier life – one that can lead to reducing cancer risk. So today we challenge all smokers to quit “cold turkey”, even if it’s just for the day in honor of this celebration!!! Also don’t forget about the smoking cessation classes that the Pulmonary Center is offering to all CMC employees.  We still have spaces available for the December smoking cessation classes; call us today at 751-0449 to sign up!!!
