Steve’s Weekly Update

Teamwork can be summed up in five short words: “We believe in each other.” ~Author Unknown

Once again let me wish everyone a happy new year! 2014 was a pivotal year for Northside and you rose to the occasion. We improved in almost every metric and seem to be carrying that momentum into 2015! We must stay focused on the patient and how they experience our facility and each and every one of you have the ability to make them a raving customer. Let’s work together to make 2015 the best year yet for our hospital, physicians, patients and you.

We have completed our first full week as a tobacco free campus. I want to commend each of you for supporting this healthy initiative and setting the example for the community. I know that some of you may be struggling and we empathize as you work to change your lifestyle here at work and maybe at home as well. Your health is important to us and we want to help. We are finalizing an agreement with Kinetix Health Clubs that will help support a healthier you in 2015. The tentative agreement includes: No enrollment fee, no fee for the month of January, and a $5 discount off the monthly membership fee!  Additionally, staff will still be eligible to apply for the $10 refund through CHS HR.  Combined, all the benefits would add up to $4.99/month per staff member!  We will send out detailed information once we have a final agreement.

The H2U Clinic opening is scheduled for Thursday 1/22. The clinic will be located at CMC in Building D.  This is a great benefit for you and your dependents in need of medical care.  Whether you are covered by a HCA medical plan or not, this clinic is intended for you.  There will be a co-pay fee of $75 for those not covered under a HCA medical plan.

Our Employee Service Awards is coming! It is always a pleasure to celebrate our staff, especially those who have dedicated several years of service to our patients and organization.  We look forward to celebrating with you on this special occasion. Services Awards for those who started in 1974, 1979, 1984, 1989, 1994, 1999, 2004, and 2009 years will be on January 29th at the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in Downtown Macon.  Watch for your invitation in the mail!

Don’t forget our upcoming community education: Lap-Band Seminar this Saturday at 10am in the first floor classroom. Next week:  Sleep Seminar featuring Dr. Hendricks, Tuesday, Jan 13, 6 pm, CNH First Floor Conference Room

We continue to work hard on filling our open positions. Don’t forget you can benefit as well by referring qualified candidates. Human resources can provide any information you need on our referral bonus program at 478-765-4155.

Staff recognition:

I would like to recognize April Watson, RN and Andrew Dasher, RN from the Quality Department who provided assistance to the ED and 2nd Floor on several occasions during the recent surge.  Thanks! – Jan Rogers

I would like to thank Anita Jones – Supply Chain Tech, Corey Smith – Supply Chain Tech and Vincent Lester – Supply Chain Coordinator for their hard work to quickly gather supplies to temporarily open 2nd floor this week especially since the 2nd floor supply room was shut down and had no stock already in house. – Natalie Mize

Just wanted to share some great news……….as a result of your leadership and the work of your teams across the individual categories of the 2014 Risk Reduction Program, South Atlantic Division achieved the 2nd highest total percent of credit awarded within the company.   Results included your participation in TeamSTEPPS for which an additional 1.5 % – 3 % credit was awarded.   As a reminder, TeamSTEPPS participation is limited to a number of hospitals and is based on submission and acceptance of individual hospital applications.   Although SC and FL have participated for a number of years, this was year one for our GA hospitals and we appreciate your contribution.   Thank you again and we are looking forward to great work and results with the 2015 Clinical Safety Improvement Program toward improving safety and decreasing risks for our patients.  – Helena Feather, South Atlantic Division VP Quality & Risk

I received a call this morning from M.M.  She was a patient here on the floor several weeks ago and let me know that she had a great experience and mentioned that she told the CEO this while she was here.  She was calling back today to tell me that her husband R.M. came here this weekend in the ER and was “beyond thrilled” at the care he received and said they finally “straightened him out”.  She just felt like we needed to know what a great team we had here at CNH, both on the floor and in the ER. I told her how much we appreciated her call and assured her I would pass on the information to our leadership team. – Amy Stokes

Thanks for all that you do to make Northside the hospital of choice for North Macon residents!
