Steve’s Weekly Wrap-Up

Wow, what a dreary week we have had here in Macon. It feels more like Seattle than middle Georgia but they are promising sun for the weekend! As with the weather, we had seen many patients under the weather with the flu visiting our ER’s. Last month we saw collectively over 400 cases between CNH and CMC. We are fortunate that the outbreak has subsided but experts expect us to see another spike before flu season is over. Please continue to protect yourselves and our patients by practicing good hand hygiene and covering your mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing. If you are not vaccinated make sure that your mask is completely covering you’re your mouth and nose in patient care areas.

Our agreement with Kinetix Health Clubs is complete and you can now access the $5 dollar discount on the regular $20 monthly fee as well as the sign-up fee being waived! Please show your Coliseum Northside badge when signing up. More information will be sent out soon regarding the hospital reimbursement portion or you may call human resources. A healthy you is just around the corner!

We are now 3 weeks into a tobacco free campus so congratulations to those who have chosen to quit and made it so far! We also appreciate those who have adapted to meet this tobacco free campus.

Yesterday I had the opportunity to tour the new H2U Health Center located on the CMC campus in building D suite 130. What a fabulous clinic for you to take advantage of as staff of Coliseum Health System. The center will be open for HCA employees as of January 22. Hours are M, W, F 7:30am – 4:00 pm and T, TH 10:00 am – 6:30 pm. For those employees and their dependents (2+ years old) covered by HCA medical benefits, there is NO COST to visit the health center (and a visit includes labs and common medication needs). If employees have questions they are welcome to contact Alyson Cozart 478.501.7892 or Alyson.cozart@hcahealthcare.com. I know you are going to appreciate this great benefit.

I have begun meetings with all of the Directors and Managers to review your progress on the employee survey action plans. As a reminder the expectation is this is part of every staff meeting and your progress is updated. Your feedback and participation is essential to improving our hospital as a place to work. Thanks for your help in guiding our efforts to do just that!

We have been scheduled by Joint Commission for our Sepsis Certification Survey, February 13, 2015.  This is a one (1) day survey with one (surveyor). I look forward to a successful survey and becoming the final hospital in the South Atlantic Division to get this coveted designation.

EAG is coming back home to CNH! At the last EAG meeting it was decided to split the EAG into campus specific committees in order to allow for more participation. We are also going to try and combine the EAG with activities committee that Lisa Brown has done such a nice job organizing. We are going to try this for a year and see if it works better than the combined EAG and separate EAC’s. The idea is to make it easier for you to have a voice in what happens here at CNH but still allow us to work together on common items across the system like hospital week. Liana Rogers has agreed to help reorganize us with the help of Human Resources. If you are interested in serving please call Liana at 538-0407 or email her at liana.rogers@hcahealthcare.com

Just a reminder: Our Employee Service Awards is coming! It is always a pleasure to celebrate our staff, especially those who have dedicated several years of service to our patients and organization.  We look forward to celebrating with you on this special occasion. Services Awards for those who started in 1974, 1979, 1984, 1989, 1994, 1999, 2004, and 2009 years will be on January 29th at the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in Downtown Macon.  Watch for your invitation in the mail!

Our new Division President Hugh Tappan will be here for a visit and tour next Thursday from 1-4pm. Let’s show him what world class patient care looks like in Macon. I am sure he will want to talk with you as he tours. Let’s give him a big Macon welcome!

DECON class 1/22 at CNH and 1/23 at CMC- you may attend either one! 8 hour class, you will get wet, must be willing to take the challenge and be an outstanding individual willing to work with this special ops team. Right now I have 2 or 3 people on the list for the entire hospital (CNH). Contact Liana at 538-0407.

ALL Coliseum Staff and up to three guests are invited to attend the Mercer Men’s Basketball game on February 14th when they play UNCG at 4:00 PM.  Enjoy! Go Bears!
