Steve’s Weekly Wrap-Up

“Your smile is your logo, your personality is your business card, how you leave others feeling after having an experience with you becomes your trademark.”

― Jay Danzie

All I can say is busy, busy, busy and thank you, thank you, thank you! We are finishing out the month about 50 admissions over what we budgeted, emergency room visits are up 27% and surgeries are up 76 cases over last year. While this is tremendous for our hospital, we also understand the strain it is putting on everyone. Please know we are recruiting hard to find the right people to join our team. In the meantime Pat and I appreciate everyone’s help to insure our patients and families are well cared for during this busy time. As I was rounding on patients this week two family members of a patient gave me a big hug and thanked me for having such caring and compassionate staff here. It made my week!

You now have another mechanism to ask questions or bring things to my attention. It is called “Ask Steve” and is found on our hospital intranet page (Insight). Just click and type in your question and they come straight to me.

Next Wednesday from 11-2 we will award our HCA Awards of Distinction in the cafeteria. The awards will be announced from the nominees listed below and I will say now all of these associates are very strong candidates and being nominated is an award in itself. Please join us for lunch on us and congratulate these nominees and this year’s winners. Special thanks to all who took the time to nominate these deserving team members.

We are seeing great improvement in our documentation of vital signs, MEWS scores, Neuro Checks, Pain assessments and PCA pump documentation. Here is this week’s audit results: VS – 100%, MEWS – 80%, Neuro checks – 50%, Pain – 88%, PCA – 100%. Keep up the great work and improvement!

Thanks to everyone who came down and signed our commitment to excellent patient service today! I know you all take this very seriously and  our patients comments and surveys reflect your focus. I am looking forward to being number one very soon!

We have approved the following purchases this month: new stretchers for ED, new scale for ED, new nuclear medicine workstation, new monitor for ED, new wheelchairs (the fancy ones!), and a new spine navigation system and 3D C-arm for the OR.

I must always send a reminder about patient safety to keep it top of mind. It should be the first and last thing we think about as we go about our day. If you have a near miss or safety misadventure please be sure to document it immediately in the incident reporting system so we can review these and look for ways to prevent them from happening in the future.
