Happy Nurse’s Week! This is a month of celebration at Coliseum Northside with both Nurses’ Week and Hospital Week all rolled into one. For our nurses, it is a time to reflect on the important role you have in caring and comforting the sick and dying in our hospital. Beyond the physical care, there is a psychological aspect to the healing process and dying that is part of the relationship you build with your patients and their families. Nursing is a profession, but more importantly a vocation, a calling, to be of service to others at their most vulnerable time. For the entire hospital staff, it is a time for us to celebrate and recognize the valuable part you play in the care team and support you provide for our physicians, patients, nurses and families. It takes a team like we have here at CNH to raise the level of care like patients expect here at our hospital. From myself, Pat, Heath and the rest of the leadership team, we thank you for sharing your time and talent here at Northside.
This week, we continued celebrating Employee Appreciation Month with our 3rd lip-sync video filming, the “May the Cake Be with You” Bake Off (congratulations to Misty for winning 2nd Place with her delicious pound cake and Maryanne for her winning Star Wars cupcakes!) and another drawing for those who have taken the survey to win a Fitbit tracker and Apple Watch. You can’t win if you name isn’t in the drawing so complete your survey soon! Next week’s prizes are another Fitbit Tracker and Action Camera. The grand prize for the last week is a 60 inch TV with Playstation! Activities for next week are the Instagram Scavenger Hunt throughout the week, and Millennium Falcon Food Truck Fest on Wednesday.
We currently lead the South Atlantic Division with 78% participation. We have 64 staff members who have not taken the survey yet. Your feedback is critical to continuing the things we are doing well and improving things that still present opportunity whether that be equipment or processes. The best part is that you may win a prize by being included in the drawing.
Project updates: handrails for the 3rd floor are being installed over the next several weeks, demolition of the cyber café space is underway, new equipment funded by the division ($200,000) – PACU flooring, Bravo monitor/receiver for endo, dinamap for PACU 1st floor, new monitor for 2nd floor PACU to transfer info directly to Meditech, washer/sterilizer for endo/OR to eliminate need to send equipment to CMC, Axis table conversion to Jackson for OR, Stryker System 7 (saws/drills) for ortho and Montreal positioner for Ortho cases, replacement planning for new Specials Lab in Radiology is underway. We have also been approved for new nurse call and resurfacing of all the roads and parking areas of the hospital. All of these represent a significant investment in our hospital to support the care you deliver.
The Employee Stock Purchase plan is open from now until May 15th. The ESPP allows participants to set aside a small amount of each paycheck, on an after-tax basis, to purchase shares of HCA stock at a discount. To enroll or make changes to your account, log into www.HCArewards.com and click ESPP.
Unless something changes in the next 24-48 hours, my daughter Anna will have an induction to give birth to our first grandbaby on Saturday in NYC. I will again be away on Monday and Tuesday to celebrate with her and her husband Corey. Thank you for your understanding of my absence.
As many of you already know, Sandy Taylor’s husband and sweetheart since high school, Joe, passed away Wednesday after his long battle with cancer. Visitation will be held Friday night from 6 to 8 pm at McCullough Funeral Home in Warner Robins. Then a graveside service Saturday morning 11 am at Reynolds Chapel Cemetery, 61 Reynolds Cemetery Rd in Deveraux, Georgia.
Directions to cemetery: Take Highway 22 towards Milledgeville. Between Milledgeville and Sparta, turn left on Carr’s Station Rd, right on Jones Chapel Rd, you will pass Powell Grove Rd on the left, turn right on Davis Rd and cross the bridge. You will see cemetery on the left. In lieu of flowers please consider donations to The American Cancer Society. Please keep Sandy and her sons Ryan and Justin in your prayers.

- “Elizabeth Greene is so great with training Bill (new staff nurse). She was sitting down with him going line by line in his notebook and was telling him things that I didn’t even know. She took the time to help him with Meditech step by step. I wanted to take the time out to compliment her.” Employee – Cris Birmingham, RN
