Steve’s Weekly Wrap-Up (August 5, 2016)

I want to congratulate CMC on the announcement of its affiliation with Mercer Medical mercer school of medicineSchool and the opening of Georgia’s newest graduate medical education program! This program will eventually train over 100 residents in internal medicine, psychiatry, family practice and emergency medicine. These residents will help to meet the growing future demand for physicians in Macon, middle Georgia and across the state. Northside will benefit from this program as well. We will serve as out-rotation site for some specialties and will eventually serve as a clinical rotation site for 3rd and 4th year residents. The foundation of this GME program is a signal that we are committed to providing the highest quality care for our community as well as impact the growth of our city. We should all be proud of HCA and CMC for this great new program. Congratulations to Lance and his team!

EBCD logo_no backgroundThis week we kicked off the evidenced based clinical documentation (EBCD) for nursing led by Wayne Thompson, Willon Hunter and Joshua Shepard. Members of our corporate and Division ITS as well as Doctors Hospital of Augusta were here to support us through this training and transition to a new documentation system. The goal is to reduce the amount of time documenting so that our caregivers will have more time at the bedside assessing, treating and educating our patients. This initiative is a result of feedback from our nurses through the employee survey and other nursing service communication channels. This is a big step in leveraging the technology to enhance patient care. Thanks to everyone who participated in the kick-off.

We completed our town hall meetings this week. The items we discussed were; EBCD kick-off, staff recruitment, Heart Walk, Red United, hospital department reorganization, Chief Medical Officer/Surgical Services Director/ICU and Respiratory recruitment update, CMS 4 Star rating, employee survey,  and our Cyber Lounge and food truck event on August 12th. Thanks for all those who attended and feel free to share that information with you colleagues.

Dr. Ryan Schnetzer, our new ortho/spine surgeon, will be visiting on Monday to prepare for his September 1st start at CNH. He is an important part of the future growth of our hospital and surgical services. Please welcome him to our facility.

Dr. Rachel Deguzman has been named medical director for the EmCare hospitalist service. Please welcome her back to our hospital.

architectProjects: We completed the architectural drawings for our new specials lab. The next steps are to get final engineering drawings, certificate of need filed with the State of Georgia and send bid packages out for the construction and installation. Heath King, our CFO, submitted some additional documents to our design and construction office in Nashville for our ED expansion. We should be hearing soon on how and when this project will be funded. We have completed the boiler installation and work should begin soon on the generator and OR air handler. The physicians’ lounge should be completed by the end of next week. Thanks to HIM for accommodating the physicians while we were under construction.

4-starsNext week I meet with our Community Advisory Committee to discuss MyHealthOne, CMS star ratings and CMC GME Program. These are individuals that are community leaders and influencers from across Macon that help communicate the great things happening at CNH.

AIDETHow our patients experience care is important. Please, always use AIDET when entering a room and ask the 4 P questions: pain, potty, position, personal possessions.

Recognition:

  • “I was recently a patient at CNH on the 2nd floor after a procedure.  I have been a patient several times this year due to health problems.  I want to deeply thank the staff at CNH for their excellent care.  Special thanks to Matt & Amanda (ICU), Tabitha Ragan (CRNA), BlairJoshMrs. TMs. VivianMs. Martha (2nd Floor).  Everyone was great, thanks so much!”   Patient – R. P.

  • Tiffany did an awesome job getting my dad’s pain under control.  She has been attentive to his needs.  Thanks so much for being patient with him.”  Patient’s daughter – H. J.

  • “Recently my wife was a patient at CNH.  The nurses and techs in the ICU were extremely professional and helpful to both of us – Matt was exceptional.  Later she was transferred to the 2nd  floor where she had exceptional care as well.  The names I can remember were Cris, Bert, Andrea, Brianna, Katie, Tanisha, Teonshe, Topaz & Valerie.  In addition, Meredith helped me personally on several occasions by making coffee for me and just being helpful in general.  My wife and I tell people that Coliseum hospitals are ‘our hospitals.’  Please pass along our sincere thanks to all the people involved with my wife’s care during our stay at Coliseum Northside.  You have some very excellent medical professionals affiliated with Coliseum hospitals.  Thanks for your commitment to service”.  Patient’s husband – F.W.

  • “Today I felt horrible and then Kim Edwards put me in a bed, covered me up, listened to me whine and treated me like family.  I feel like she kissed my forehead and patted me all better.  Thanks again!”  Patient – B

  1. Thanks for the EBCD plug! This is such an exciting improvement for our clinical staff and our patients. Returning time back to our nurses, so they can focus on the patient, is such a positive step.
