Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life.
You all certainly lived our mission this week despite the worst flu season in four years and snowmageddon, you were all here for our patients. I appreciate the teamwork, exceptional patient care and patience as we continue to work through this winter season where so many people in our community need our help in reducing their suffering from the flu and other chronic illness exacerbated by this winter weather.
Thanks to you who have taken the mid-year CMC employee survey as a check-up on how we are progressing in improving the workplace. As of today, approximately 50% of you have participated. We have made the decision to keep the survey open through Monday (January 22) to give those of you who haven’t taken it a little extra time. You can complete the check-up survey from anywhere by going to www.hcasurveys.com. Thanks for providing valuable feedback to help drive the improved performance of our hospital.
Town Hall Meetings – Please check out the dates and times for the Town Hall Meetings coming next week. This will be a chance for you to get some updates on CMC happenings. Come join us!
As I mentioned previously, we are experiencing the worst flu season in 4 years. Now more than ever, it is important that we all follow good hand hygiene both in the hospital and at home. This is the simplest way to protect yourself, your family and our patients. Even if you have been vaccinated, you need to follow the same precautions to prevent the spread of this virus. This year’s vaccine is only protective at about a 30% rate, but may lessen the symptoms if you do contract the flu.
All of our major projects remain on schedule at both hospitals. We are sending out communications weekly on changes to traffic patterns and entrances at CMC due to the nature of our ED project. CNH will begin using their new Interventional Radiology suite next week on schedule! The refresh of the rehab unit on the 4th floor of CMC will be complete by mid-February. The next big project at CMC will be the ligature risk mitigation in the behavioral health unit. That project is expected to last 8-12 weeks and will provide increased safety for our patients on that unit.
Our AHRQ (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality) Hospital Survey will take place January 30 through February 27. This survey is to get feedback from you regarding the culture of safety within Coliseum Health System. Our goal is to have at least 80% of you take the survey. Lynn Hamilton will be working with your Directors to provide the link and some incentives for you to take the survey. Please watch for the notices from your Directors and your email for the survey and updates. Thanks in advance for taking the time to share your thoughts and observations.
Thanks to those of you who submitted nominations for our HCA Awards of Distinction. I am looking forward to recognizing those nominated as well as our winners of these awards again this year. The awards include our Frist Humanitarian Award (Physician, Employee and Volunteer), Innovators Award (Quality & Patient Safety, Service Excellence and Financial Impact) and Excellence in Nursing Award (Professional Mentoring and Compassionate Care). The CMC recipients will be announced in the CMC Cafeteria on February 1st at 2:30pm.
