Steve’s Weekly Wrap-Up (March 15, 2018)

cherry blossom 2

Bed RaceIt’s Cherry Blossom time in Macon, and Coliseum Health System will be well-represented this Saturday in the Cherry Blossom Bed Race! Northside and CMC will both have beds in the race from 1p-2pm at Cherry and Third Streets. This is sure to be a fun event; bring your family for a good time! Ben Kerscher, the team captain for the CMC team, “Fall Risk Runners,” told me earlier today that CMC is going to beat the CNH Team, “FastER and Furious” in the race. He also shared that both he and Vic Spaventa have been working out and are ready to beat the pants off Northside! Come out and support our teams and the Cherry Blossom Festival. We may need medical help for Vic and Ben despite their preparation for a big win!

joint commissionThe Joint Commission has arrived at Coliseum Northside for their triennial survey. This is the same survey team scheduled for CMC between now and July. Once we have the results from CNH, we will share with you so we can learn from their survey. These surveys are important to our patient care as they review our patient safety and quality initiatives. They will be on the lookout for opportunities to provide safer care as they can identify trends across the country related to patient safety. We must always be looking for opportunities in how to deliver high quality, safe care to our patients. This is just one way we monitor and improve our care.

Thanks to everyone who took the AHRQ survey! At the end we had over 85% participation in the survey. Once we have the results back and analyze the input, we will develop plans to improve our culture of safety at CMC.

Mobile HeartbeatI am pleased to announce that Coliseum Health System is included in the Wave 2 (July – October) deployment of 2018 iMobile/Mobile Heartbeat. This exciting technology improves the quality of care by making communication easier between our caregivers and delivers results to your fingertips all in a HIPAA compliant product, including text messaging. Stay tuned as we assemble our kick-off teams for this important patient care technology.

architectWe still have multiple projects underway at CMC. The rehab facelift will be complete this week. Our ED project is still on schedule for a May 22nd completion date. We are well into the ligature mitigation in our Behavioral Health unit that is due for completion in May as well. This week we also kicked off the expansion of the GME space to accommodate the new group of residents due here in July. Lots of investments in our community and hospital all aligned with our Mission: Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life.

Speaking of residents, Match Day will be Friday, March 16 and we will match with 26 of 27 of our resident slots for 2018. This means we got our top candidates from the interview process after looking at thousands of candidates and narrowing it down to about one hundred for interviews. These will be great additions to our existing Internal Medicine and Psychiatry programs as well as 13 first year Transitional Residents. All designed to help meet the needs of our community well into the future in middle Georgia.
