Coliseum loves the Macon Bacon! It was great to see everyone who came out to the Macon Bacon game on Friday. We certainly made a statement with those tie-dyed CHS shirts and our collective YMCA performance. Earlier in the evening, it looked like we might get rained out, but thankfully, the rain stayed away from Luther Williams Field and allowed us to have some good fellowship time away from work. I hope that we can find more opportunities like this to strengthen our bond as a team. Thanks to everyone who helped plan this event and make it such a success with over 400 CHS staff and family members attending.
Coliseum Medical Centers will host a ribbon-cutting event to officially open the newly installed helipad and expanded emergency room. Please join us at the helipad on Wednesday, July 18th at 9:30am for the ribbon cutting and the excitement of an Air Evac landing. Help us put an exclamation point on the completion of this enhanced patient care environment where our expert team of nurses, physicians and essential staff will be providing the highest quality care and exceptional patient experience to our community. This is the latest physical manifestation of our commitment to the care and improvement of human life.
A warm welcome to Scott Anderton, our new CFO, and his wife Kristin and their two children, Grayson and Evie. Scott joins us from Richmond, Virginia where he served as ACFO for Chippenham- Johnston Willis Hospitals, a 758 bed, two-campus HCA organization. Please help me welcome Scott to the Coliseum team!
Kelly Lindsay will be joining us on August 1st as our new COO. Kelly has been with HCA, both at Memorial Hospital and Orange Park Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida, for more than 20 years and most recently served as Vice President of Operations for Orange Park Medical Center. Prior to that, she was the Director of Cardiovascular Services and was instrumental in growing the cardiovascular service line to become a regional leader, especially in open heart surgery, for which she and her team earned numerous accreditations and accolades. Kelly, her husband Robert and children Noah and Grace, will be relocating to Macon in late July. Please help me welcome Kelly to the Coliseum team!
We continue our efforts to “Leave No Nurse Behind” as part of a focused effort to hire 500 nurses to fill over 470 openings across the South Atlantic Division. Our part of that number is 72 nurses by the end of August. Above is the latest update on our progress. Please keep looking for experienced nurses to join our team and take advantage of the employee referral bonus! There is no limit to the number of referral bonuses you can collect.
We have reviewed the employee survey results with your Directors and are now ready for them to share department-specific results with you to begin to build an actionable plan to improve on those areas identified in the survey. Once the plan is built, it should be reviewed at every staff meeting to update you on its progress and identify other items that may present themselves as we take actions on these plans. It is important that we have measurable action plans so that we can hold each other accountable to moving these goals in a meaningful way, in a way that truly impacts your work environment. We improved from 67 to 70% on our employee survey and look forward to a bigger positive when we take the 2019 survey!
Many of you have requested a poster with pictures and contact numbers for our new internal medicine, transitional and psychiatry residents. Thanks to Yolanda Bing, one of our GME Program Directors, for putting this together in an electronic format. I distributed those to our Department Directors via email this weekend so that they can distribute and display in your departments. We now have 41 residents completing their training here at CMC, and I look forward to their contributions to our patients’ experience in our hospital.
On August 15th, our National Group Leadership and South Atlantic Leadership will be visiting our hospital. As part of that visit, we will be touring the hospital so that they can interact with you and see first-hand the care you provide our patients. Those currently scheduled to attend are:
Chuck Hall – National Group President
Mike Marks – National Group CFO
Dr. Michael Schlosser – HealthTrust CMO
Hugh Tappan – South Atlantic Division President
Terence Van Arkle – South Atlantic Division CMO
Dr. Sebastian Strom – South Atlantic Division CMO
Nina Evans – South Atlantic Division Chief Nurse Executive
Thanks to all of you who have sent me patient stories to share as part of my “365 Patient Stories” emails. These stories of exceptional patient service and experience are inspiring and should be shared every time they occur. I enjoy reading them and recognizing those involved in these events. Keep them coming!
Thank you for sharing your time and talent at CMC!
